Three ACT Playbill- An evening of the Classics – revisited, rearranged and retold
Henrik Ibsen’s - A DOLL’S HOUSE
Ibsen’s classic A Doll’s House receives a modern makeover by the second year students and their coach Tamryn Speirs. Norah Helmer (Annabelle Woolley) seems to have it all: a successful husband, a loving family and a beautiful home. But the arrival of an unexpected visitor threatens to expose a secret and unravel her seemingly perfect life.
This psychological thriller about partnership and power, marriage and money, love and lies, still resonate viscerally in today’s contemporary society, 137 years since it premiered. The play has been, and is still being staged throughout the world. It’s universal and controversial themes about anxiety and complex characters make it as relevant today.
Cast: Annabelle Woolley, Maarten Römer, Thabiso Ndaba, Tamryn McKenzie, Dale Lourens

Anton Chekhov’s - THE BEAR
The Bear is brief but penetrating, quirky and hilarious. It's also somewhat ahead of its time; an acerbic and insightful battle-of-the-sexes written, as it was, in 1888, prior to the better-known classic dramas of Anton Chekhov. It is an oxymoron to me, but here it is as fresh and pertinent as any comparative modern work and its team of second year actors and coach, Tamryn Speirs bring a modern understanding to add to its freshness and relevance today. Grigory Smirnoff (Julian Place) arrives at the home of Elena Popova (Eranne Hancke) to demand payment upon a hefty debt her deceased husband still owes him.
Cast: Julian Place, Eranne Hancke, Daniel Pfeiffer

Anton Chekhov’s - THE THREE SISTERS
There's a feverish edge and a playful hedonism to the second years with support of their coach Tamryn Speirs’ version of Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters. Olga (Lauren Manewil), Masha (Sofie Brügger) and Irina (Monique Jackson), siblings stranded in a backwater town after the death of their father, are desperate to return to Moscow. Arrival to the home of one garish, small-town girl who captures the heart of their brother Andrei, the arrival of a charming and romantic Vershinin and the company of soldiers and suitors, a fire , a revolt of the bourgeois begs the question: Will these girls make it back to their proverbial Emerald city of Moscow in time?
