Akustika Chamber Singers
"Chiaroscuro" (Light-dark)

In Painting & Drawing: The technique was perfected during the Renaissance and Baroque periods by masters like Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio. By placing subjects in bright "spotlights" that emerge from deep shadows, artists create lifelike, sculptural forms.
In Photography & Film: The concept applies heavily to black-and-white photography and genres like film noir, where sharp lighting gradients are used to build mood, tension, or mystery.
In Music: In classical singing (particularly opera), it refers to blending a bright, brilliant tone (chiaro) with a darker, warmer vocal timbre (scuro) to create a richer sound.
Metaphorical Use: Outside the arts, it describes any striking contrast between light and dark, such as the duality of good and evil in a character, or a sharp mood shift in a piece of writing.
