Blue Jeans

Aaron Levi has a great deal to answer for! When he began to mass produce denim trousers with Jacob Davies in 1873, it was the cloth of the labourers uniform, strong, sturdy & with rivets to hold the seams together.

It began to be a fashion statement in the 1950’s when idols like James Dean wore denim for the first time as a symbol of rebellion against authority.   

“Blue Jeans”, the show, depicts the journey of denim through the 50’s & 60’s when the word ‘teenager’ was invented. Typically, the music of the era reflected the social changes taking place- to the horror of most conservative parents of the day!

The Waterfront Theatre Junior School will take you on a journey in song, dance & drama, highlighting the music of the times, & taking you back on a nostalgic journey through the 50’s and 60’s, showcasing the talents of around 180 children.

The production is written & directed by Delia Sainsbury assisted by Genna Galloway & Devon Hull.

The choreography is by Simone Marshall, Marguerite Bredell, Melissa Andrews, Christelle van Niekerk, plus the associate teachers from the full-time College.

Sit back, have fun & be transported to the time of your parents & grand-parents - & I bet they’re all still wearing blue jeans.
