What happens when electricity arrives for the first time, or suddenly disappears?
Clarens Cinema: When the Light Changes presents two powerful short documentaries exploring our relationship with light and energy: Birth of Light, set in a remote community in Northern Kenya, and No Electricity, No Money, capturing everyday life during load shedding in Khayelitsha.
The screenings are followed by a live Q&A with filmmakers Jasmijn Schrofer from the Netherlands and Samuel Flans from South Africa, as well as an expert conversation about how Clarens became South Africa’s first “smart town” as it manages load demand during power cuts.
An intimate and inspiring afternoon of film and conversation that asks one simple question: How does light change the way we live?
Parking: In front of Protea Hotel
