Event Description
Choirs Connect: Classics Participant Registration

Choirs Connect is a two event series running over four days with the aim to engage choirs and singers of all levels of experience in a world class event in exceptional venues.

We invite you and your choir or individuals like ex choristers, conductors and music students who have a urge to be part of this incredible experience in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Be bold and combine your passion for travel and music in this unique event.

The Choirs Connect Classics event will be hosted in the beautiful Cape Town City hall. The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will be our esteemed professional orchestra and the University of Western Cape Combined Arts Choir will be the anchor choir. Gerben Grootten will be the conductor for both concerts.

The premiere event will take place in October 2020.

The work we will perform at this premier event is the Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo.

The programme will start on Friday morning with a skype workshop with Ola Gjeilo from New York. This will then be continued with Gerben Grooten to discuss the expectations around the music.

The rest of Friday will be filled with rehearsals and possibly a welcome event by city/provincial authorities. Saturday morning and afternoon will be rehearsals and stage rehearsals with our Premiere concert the evening at 20h00. We expect a large international audience in the house. UWC CA Choir and CPO will host a special firs half filled with incredible music.

Sunday morning will be a trip by boat to Robben Island where each choir will be allowed to perform an item and the group will sing a song to end off this impromptu choral festival in honour of the Legacy of Nelson Mandela, should you select to be part of that.  We will meet back in our concert gear at 13h00 to start our final concert at 15h00 for our next audience with special guests of honour in the house and we hope to have a host for a special farewell event after the concert.

Thursday or Monday can be spent on your tourism activity of choice with special packages negotiated for participants. You can select to do a Full day winelands and wine tasting tour, a Cape Point full day tour from Cape Town or shorter excursions like Table Mountain on Cape Town Hop-on-hop off bus tour to enjoy the incredible summer weather in Cape Town or even visit a game farm for a safari experience.

Remember to send a video of your choir performing any piece that you feel display their sound, a photo and bio to allow us to build the choir. Individuals can send us a recording of them performing any song. Alos high resolution photo and short bio

We do offer great accommodation rates for out of towners on B&B basis.

Singers will be allowed to pre-order an event t-shirt and each singer will provide their own formal black dress/pants for the concerts.

The package cost will include the workshop with Ola Gjeilo & Gerben Grootten, rehearsals with Cape Town Philharmonic orchestra and University of Western Cape Combined Arts Choir, two full concerts in the Cape Town City Hall with a light lunch/dinner pack provided. The concert will consist of a special programme by UWC CA choir on African Music, a 40 minute show by CPO and friends and the second half will be your time on stage with the Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo and Conducted by Gerben Grootten.

We can’t wait to share this special experienced with you as singer or your choir. See below the special letter from the composer of the piece: Ola Gjeilo.Ola
