A festival of great Czech movies recalling the not so distant totalitarian past of countries in Central Europe.
This festival marks the 40th anniversary of the trial with Czech underground musicians that united Czech dissident groups around the human rights initiative „Charter 77“, as well as the 80th birthday of Václav Havel, a playwright, dissident and a huge fan of underground bands who later became the Czechoslovak and Czech President.
Special guest:
Screenings will be followed by a discussion with Mr. Jan Macháček, previously an underground activist and musician, nowadays an acclaimed Czech journalist.
The film festival is part of the EuropeFest festival presenting in South Africa in May 2016 a diverse range of EU Member States cultural events. Lenin’s Vodka Bar in Maboneng will be presenting local bands in recognition of the Czech underground.

2010, drama/thriller directed by Radim Špaček. Running time: 146 min.
A psychological story about relations between secret police (StB) and dissident movement set in Communist Czechoslovakia in the 1980s. A dark thriller with an unpredictable protagonist who becomes dangerous to all people around including himself. His way to reach the goal is self-destructive.
