Curiosita is one of the Da Vinci principles referring to “an insatiably curious approach to life and an unrelenting quest for continuous learning.” (Gelb, 1998)
ABOUT
The Curiosita Forum is a monthly colloquium for contemporary thinking on the Management of Technology, Innovation and People in a systemic context, hosted by Faculty of The Da Vinci Institute. The forum takes the format of a vibrant round-table discussion that consists of two parts. Firstly, a student speaker presents their research to those in attendance, with the aim of receiving input on their research methodology. Then a guest speaker from industry presents a discussion focussing on TIPS.
STUDENT SPEAKER
DESIREE VARDHAN, Manager, SASCOC
Title of Thesis: "Exploring sports coaching experiences and needs of athletes and sports coaches within a developing socio-economic context."
ABOUT DESIREE
Desiree Vardhan is the driving force behind the establishment of the South African Coaching Framework and the recently recognized Professional body for Sports Coaching. She is the co-author of the SA Long Term Coach Development framework (LTCD), SA Sports for Life framework (SAS4L). She was influential in establishing a masters degree programme for sports coaching which commenced in 2017. She had also steered the recognition of prior learning assessments for sports coaching and the first Coach developer progamme in 2011.
GUEST SPEAKER
Wayne Aronson, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Technetium (Pty) Ltd.
Title of Topic: "Giving away things for free has been the most profitable thing we have done – A Strategy for Technology Innovation."
Abstract: With the advent of globalization of technology and business it is becoming more and more difficult to innovate and create original ideas. Technetium has recognized that by charging less for conventional services they are able to improve turn over and product innovation. This includes a strategy for redefining its approach to business and technology R&D by shifting it outside of the company and indirectly enlisting its clients in this role. Wayne will take you through the origins of this unconventional strategy and explain how it has positively impacted on all areas of the business including the generating of tangible revenue returns.
