Event Description

The Documentary Filmmakers Association in collaboration with the Bioscope Independent Cinema invites you to this month's docLOVE screening of CAPTURING WATER.

Date: Sun 31 May 2pm.

Venue: The Bioscope Independent Cinema, 44 Stanley Ave, Milpark, Johannesburg

Booking: Purchase a "R20 Cafe Voucher" to reserve your seat for this screening. This will get you R20 off your Bioscope Cafe bill on this day.

About the film:

The film highlights three organised struggles. You will meet working class activists, bravely mobilising against water restriction devices and water privatisation; an activist farmer litigating to stop city plans to cement over an aquifer that provides affordable food to thousands of people; and a suburban activist, tirelessly engaging a city that makes decades of empty promises to stop the sewage flowing into life-giving wetlands. Connecting water bodies across the city and featuring the City’s views on its infrastructure and water provision responsibilities, the film brings fresh insights into activism and hope, and challenges narratives around unjust global ‘solutions’ that are gaining traction for cities elsewhere under threat of running out of water.

Director: Rehad Desai and Anita Khanna

Duration: 1hr 20mins.
