Zikethiwe Ncobo's direction of 1001 Days creates a deeply tender and eye-opening account of the Ubulele Visiting Home programme in Alexandra, South Africa. Following the journey of eight devoted women as they selflessly provide aid and comfort to young, expectant and recent mothers, the film is a poignant reminder of the strength of the human spirit. Despite the daily hardships faced by the mothers in this community, the film emphasises the tireless dedication of these women in steering the programme. The viewer is invited on an emotional journey, experiencing moments of vulnerability and hardship and ultimately witnessing the transformative power of communal support. 1001 Days serves as a testament to the necessity of unity and shared effort in overcoming obstacles. Through Ncobo's direction, viewers are granted an intimate glimpse into the power of selflessness and compassion in inspiring hope and change.
