DIDY
Dir. Gaël Kamilindi & François-Xavier Destors | Rwanda | Switzerland | France | 83 min | 2024
In 1992, Didy, a Rwandan political activist, lost her life to HIV/AIDS during a time of immense political upheaval. Decades later, her son Gaël Kamilindi returns to his homeland on a deeply personal journey, seeking to reconnect with his roots and uncover the complex threads of a family history long buried beneath silence and sorrow. As family and friends recall her life, Didy’s story emerges, not just as a political figure, but as a mother, a woman, and a quiet force of resistance. Through an intimate lens, the film delves into generational trauma, shared grief, and the lasting imprint of memory. Set against the backdrop of genocide, displacement, and the AIDS crisis, didy explores the weight of loss through community, the persistence of life through death, and the hope that arises from healing, as Gaël begins to understand the power of one woman and the resilience of a nation.
In 2025, The Bioscope celebrates 15 Years Of Cinema. We couldn’t have achieved this without our dedicated staff who look after you every time you visit. We’re lucky enough to have had all of them with us for as long as we can remember, and believe that this loyalty deserves constant support!
For the months of May, June and July, we are running a special BIOSCOPE BIRTHDAY STAFF FUNDRAISER, where in the checkout of your ticket purchase, you can give a donation that will go straight to them - Owen, Silin, Bongi, Portia, Polite, and Swenkie!
