Pretoria Symphony Orchestra’s “Fete de la Musique” with Jaco van Staden on the podium presents our audience with our very own proudly South Africa ‘make music day”. This exciting and highly entertaining fusion of music with French-roots is a feast to enjoy.
The program includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 31, referred to as the “Paris Symphony” which he composed during a sojourn in Paris when he was 22 years old.
This very famous work is matched with Cecile Chaminade’s Concertino for flute and orchestra which is said to have been composed as a wedding present for the composer’s lover who left her for another woman. It has been compared to an epic romance novel filled with romantic themes, lots of passion, flirtations, and romantic dalliances in the technical passages.
The concert is brought to a rousing finale with a performance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien. The orchestra gets up to all sorts of orchestral antics and the audience is guaranteed to a festive combination of Italian street music and folk songs incorporated into a lively capriccio.
