Georgetown At Sowaar Bar

Georgetown is back at Sowaar bar, this time they’ll be joined by newly made friends Apollo Motel. Just like the last time this promises to be one hell of a night!    

Georgetown is a multi-instrumental folk band from Pretoria South Africa. Formed in February 2014, the talented Michael de Villiers, Renaldo van Dyk, Rynier Prins, Tebogo Mokoena and Tiaan Erasmus, have told their stories and shared their rhythms across mainstages, theatres and towns.

With their roots planted in the diverse Southern Africa, Georgetown is a captivating hybrid of the classics and unique local influences. They bring audiences together with the use of a variety of musical instruments during their performances, including acoustic guitar, piano, upright bass, mandolin, harmonica, saxophone and a vintage suitcase kick-drum, promising a distinctive and creative sound to contemporary and original folk music.

Georgetown’s first studio EP Banana Jack was released in 2016.

In 2018 they released their first full length album called The Dog Show.

In 2019 Georgetown receives a SAMA nomination for Best Contemporary Album and embark on their first European tour.

We are a young, relateable and alternative group who’s journey started in our varsity years and has taken us all over the beautiful landscape of South-Africa. 

We find our roots in Country-Blues and enjoy taking our fans with us as we travel from head-banging full electric explosions to exploring smooth blues solo acoustic avenues. 

Our lekker tunes and personable style guarentees our audiences an energetic and story-packed experiences whether it is your wedding, a corporate event, a bar-scene or a festival stage.
