Jacques Romain Georges Brel was a Belgian singer, songwriter and actor who composed and performed literate, thoughtful, and theatrical songs that generated a large, devoted following—initially in Belgium and France, later throughout the world. He was widely considered a master of the modern chanson. Although he recorded most of his songs in French and occasionally in Dutch, he became a major influence on English-speaking songwriters and performers.
Brel’s music has been a big influence on Gregg Pettigrew, especially in cabaret performances, where over the years Gregg has tended to include Brel songs in a number of his productions.
In “Gregg Pettigrew Sings Jacques Brel” Gregg pays tribute to this musical legend, performing 14 of his classic and most loved songs in a style that is true to the legacy of this great artist. In this production the songs are linked together with information and antidotes around Brel’s life story.
This is a production sure to please the large Brel purists following as well as serve as an easy, pleasing production to introduce new comers to the music of Jacques Brel.
Jacques Brel, legend, musical genius....You will never “Go Away”.....
