Ruby & Roach

Dir. Erentia Bedeker

9m || South Africa

In an airport, where a flood of anonymous faces hurry by, and the stores’ shelves are
stacked with dozens of identical products, live Ruby and Roach, two SALE toys. Relegated to
the top shelf, and kept out of sight because they are slightly worn, they seem fated to stay
behind as all the other toys find their forever homes. Then one day, they manage to escape
and the story begins.
This animated film is laden with metaphor about prejudice in society, as well as the generic,
mass manufactured nature of the things we desire - told from the point of view of the
imperfect and unconventional reject pile.

The Fighter

Dir. Reinier Smit

8m || South Africa

A young girl who has run away from her family and a Zimbabwean boxer bump into each
other by fate and in the process discover their humanity.

Long Gone

Dir. Hencas Van Huysteen)

In the aftermath of a cash in transit robbery, a detective and a rookie cop try to piece
together the puzzle of what happened the night before...

uXolile

Dir. Portia Hlubi

uXolile is a township story about a daughter, an upcoming actress, who comes home from
the city to help her sick mother. She is forced to confront her dysfunctional relationship
with her mother when long buried issues from the past resurface.

The Second

Dir. Mpumelelo Kheswa

17m || South Africa

In the midst of political violence, a former freedom fighter must transport a pregnant
woman to safety as her father fears for her life.

Opus

Dir. Kgosana Monchusi

18m || South Africa

Set in the buzzing city of Johannesburg, Opus follows a day in the life of Lebo, a young
aspiring bassist living in the informal settlements. After losing his parents and inheriting a
double bass from his father, Lebo has developed a symbiotic relationship with his
instrument. This has made him an outsider in his community but the double bass has
become his anchor for getting him through the struggles he faces.
