FOLKIFY - Kevin Abrahams

After his highly successful run of shows in PE and Cape Town, Kevin Abraham brings his acoustic ensemble, “Folkify!” to The Barnyard in Plett in June!

It’s a simple but satisfying concept: Uncomplicated, unaffected acoustic music played well.  
Kevin’s original songs and ballads will resonate with audiences who enjoy melody and meaning.  It’s also an introduction to his interpretation of a range of some of our favorite pop and rock songs re-imagined within his style of Folk music. So although the show is mainly original, there are plenty of familiar songs to enjoy, too.

Musically, Folkify is collaboration.  Kevin brings his unique songs and interpretations, strong vocals and years of experience on acoustic guitar. He’s accompanied by Janet Sklar on violin, and Kristo Zondagh on Percussion. Both Janet and Kristo are acclaimed artists in their own right; versatile and highly talented. They bring a rich, very satisfying element into the Folkify performances.

I was completely enchanted by Kevin Abraham’s ‘Folkify!’ last night!
Fantastic original material, brilliantly engaging musicianship, surprisingly well-paced feel-good entertainment and a great selection of reworked oldies culminated in an all-round enjoyable performance which radiated whole-heartedly from the soul of a folk-singer extraordinaire.
Kristo Zondagh was a master-class in tastefully understated innovation on percussion and Janet Sklar added mesmerizing, haunting Celtic melodies on violin, the perfect counterpoint to Kevin’s impressively perfect finger-picking guitar and easy onstage style.
‘Folkify!’ takes the acoustic and story-telling experience to a whole new level and is definitely something to add to your 'must-see' list when it returns, as it is bound to do after such a deservedly successful initial reception.

Many of us will remember Kevin Abraham from the Cape Town music days of the early eighties.
Audiences are in for a treat as he presents his brand new show ‘Folkify!’ in Cape Town.
“Folkify!”  Is a merging of vocals, guitar, violin and percussion.  It’s a re- introduction to Kevin’s original songs, but also includes a range of familiar pop and rock songs which have been re-imagined or ‘‘Folkified’.’’
