Play looks at real life issues in a witty way

“Animals” who personify humans will take to the stage during Kgosi Tau, a cultural children’s theatre
production and the first of the year for the Department of Drama and Film (Drama), staged at the
Breytenbach Theatre from 18 March.
Galeboe Moabi, lecturer and director, says she drew her inspiration for the production from the 1994
American animated epic musical film, The Lion King.
“The production addresses current affairs in our country through the use of symbols, metaphor and rituals
and will appeal to young and old. “It’s full of life, fun, wittiness, music, edutainment and audience
interaction,” she adds.
The story has been adapted for a stage performance and is devised in collaboration with the cast.
Xenophobia, tribalism, racism and power abuse are some of the themes that will be highlighted in the
production.
