MAY MOVIE PICK: Die Kwiksilvers
Directed by Jordy Sank. Comedy. Dur 1hr 30mins.
Kwiksilwer, the vintage Ford Granada, is no ordinary car. For Elsabe Marais (Lida Botha), it is a time capsule filled with memories of her late husband, who she often went on adventurous road trips with in the car. Accompanied by three elderly friends, the stubborn Elsabe embarks on a journey through the Karoo to witness a meteor shower in Sutherland. The rest of the unlikely foursome includes Elsabe’s nosy neighbour, Anna (June van Merch), the flamboyant Mienkie (Susanne Beyers) and the reserved Katie (Theresa Sedras). They must reach Sutherland within three days while trying to evade Elsabe’s overprotective son, Wikus (Jacques Bessenger).
