Leon Ferreira is a South African singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, voice artist and television presenter who has had a successful music career since releasing his first solo album in 1992.
Born in Virginia in the (then) Orange Free State in 1963, Ferreira achieved a National Technical Certificate from the Technical College in Wingfield, where he studied from 1983-1986.
He married his wife Amanda in 1986 and worked at a number of companies while simultaneously working on a singing career.
In 1992 he launched his first solo album through the Brettian label: Sê My, Lewe Jy. As of July 2008 he has released 11 solo albums and has collaborated on three others.
Although primarily known for his music, Ferreira also has an extensive theatre resume. His best known theatre production is his one-man show Ooggetuies (directed by Curt Cloninger), which he has performed since 1997.
Other theatre shows he has acted in include Windstoriespomp (2003), a musical for kids that debuted at the KKNK festival; a learning theatre piece entitled Church @ Work (2007); the Afrikaans stand-up show Skatersnaaks (2007-2008); and the lead in the musical Houtkruis Die Musical, which ran at the State Theatre in Pretoria in 2008.
Ferreira is perhaps best known to television audiences as the presenter (and scriptwriter) of the magazine show Vonkprop, which aired on DStv's kykNET channel from 2003-2004.
He was also involved in the marketing and production of Ontbytsake, which aired on kykNET from 2005-2006.
Leon is bilingual, speaking fluent Afrikaans and English.
