Illness hits the Innocent like a Weapon of War

For four long years, the war in eastern Ukraine has dragged on creating more tragedies every day.  And compounding this scenario comes monumental tragedies that have nothing to do with war, but an illness of such proportions that it’s difficult to understand how the families cope.

A heart-breaking victim

In a nearby village, cerebral palsy has victimised 10-year-old Lyuda Sechka so severely that she’s never known the joy of walking or running.  When she needs transport, her father’s strong arms carry her − which seems to calm her restless spirit.

“We have five children,” Mykhailo, their father, said, “and none is in perfect healthTo ease Lyuda’s immense suffering, Mission Without Borders helped us make a separate room with the required facilities for rehabilitation and physical therapy −and for private lessons and exercises.  Distressingly, a recently short-circuit started a fire which gutted the room.”

He continued; “But we must go on.  With help from MWB and the local forestry, I’m building a small new house.  With their poor health, the kids deserve warm, clean and dry living conditions.”

Mykhailo works in forestry, and despite its minimum wage, the family is hopeful for the future.  After all, the mother’s name, Nadiya, means ‘hope’!  Social assistance is minimal.” says Nadiya. “The help from forestry and MWB has just reward though.  We receive food, clothing, hygienic items, furniture and building materialsI believe this is Christ’s love in action, as we learn in church.”

In addition to the 7 000 OCL parcels, MWB - Ukraine distributes to the needy, disabled and those displaced by war, we help families on their way to self-sufficiency through our family sponsorship programme.  Thanks to many South African supporters, we are able to reach more families each year, showing them the love and care of Christ in the midst of their hardship.
