MAKE A DIFFERENCE

OPERATION CHRISTMAS LOVE

 Just as God listens to a child’s most urgent prayer for a special Christmas gift, so He hears a little one’s request to a mythical Father Christmas. And just as all requests, from young and old alike, come from the heart, so all gifts come from God.

In Eastern Europe where Mission Without Borders carries out the Lord’s work among the peoples of the impoverished former communist countries, we anticipate those prayers for a better Christmas. They could simply be to have food on the table! And so we put together many thousands of parcels, crammed with all sorts of foodstuffs, treats, gifts and uplifting Christian literature. We call each one Operation Christmas Love (OCL), because each is the epitome of the love shown by supporting the operation, and the love our own workers and volunteers have given to the campaign.

The joy an OCL parcel generates is indescribable.  Having nothing to normally smile about, the hollow, dead expressions don’t dissolve instantly, but once recipients see the contents, their expressions could light up a city! Even their inhospitable, snow-laden lands seem less icy from the warmth of their happiness.

For many, an OCL parcel heralds their first celebration of Christmas. But then most Eastern Europeans grew up in Godless countries. Operation Christmas Love shows the generosity of Christian caring, and it gets new believers involved in the story of Jesus Christ. Kids, especially, get so excited, thoughts of a mythical Father Christmas fade to the marvellous reality of Jesus.
