Back to School

In a remote village in the region of Mures, Romania – the story of Vladut personifies the struggles and progress of children in rural Romania, and the need for continued investment in education across Eastern Europe.

Many parents here spend days at the nearby garbage dump, collecting scrap metal, bottles and whatever they can find to sell, as each day they struggle to cover their children’s basic needs.

Often they return home empty handed, and the children go to bed hungry.

The hope in this village is the After School project which Mission Without Borders supports through the local church.  Here, eighty- five of the poorest children are provided with school supplies, a hot meal five days a week, a place to do their homework, hygiene supplies, medical support and the opportunity to learn about God; often for the first time.

Vladut was born with a congenital heart defect and had many complications with his immune system, which meant he did not grow properly.  He was often sick and not able to go to school, resulting in him falling behind in many ways.  Through this project, Vladut has now caught up and has now been given the all clear by doctors.  He also received a new backpack full of school supplies to help him in the year ahead.  In every way Vladut continues to improve and is becoming more outgoing and self-confident; he still wants to become a pastor when he is older.

Mission Without Borders is committed to helping thousands of children, like Vladut, to break out of the cycle of poverty in struggling communities across Eastern Europe.

We believe that only a long term investment in a child’s education; together with material and emotional support; plus trust and faith in Jesus Christ, can create real and lasting change in a child’s life

For every child and teenager we serve, the journey is long and difficult, but with your help, that journey can start now!
