Mamma Mia! (Marketed as Mamma Mia! The Movie) is a 2008 jukebox musical romantic comedy directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson, based on her 1999 stage musical. Featuring the music of ABBA, with additional compositions by Benny Andersson, the film stars an ensemble cast, including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, and Dominic Cooper.

The story follows Sophie (Seyfried), a bride-to-be who secretly invites three men (Brosnan, Firth, and Skarsgård) to her wedding, hoping to discover which one is her father.

An international co-production between Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the film was produced by Playtone and Littlestar Productions. 

Filming took place on Skopelos, Greece, between August and September 2007.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, Mamma Mia! premiered in London’s Leicester Square on 30 June 2008 and in Stockholm on 4 July 2008, attended by ABBA members Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and Agnetha Fältskog.
