MUSIC EDUCATION WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS
 
1.  MUSIC IN THE SENIOR PHASE AS REQUIRED BY THE CAPS CURRICULUM:


 Applying the themes and outcomes of the CAPS document to music Knowledge and skills development as required for Senior Phase (grades 7-9).
Interactive workshop with practical examples 

 
2.  TEACHING FOR MUSICAL UNDERSTANDING IN THE FET PHASE:
 

MUSIC TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE FET PHASE
 
Learners extend their understanding of music when they are involved in musical experience. When selecting music for teaching (senior and FET phase), the music should be relevant to learners’ life experience. Through engaging in music learning experiences this workshop will explain the following issues:



  • music learning through musical problem solving that can be considered as a mindset and vision of the classroom experience

  • ideas how to plan music lessons where learners solve musical problems through listening, creating and performing.

  • application of learners’ ‘own’ music (popular music) to create an environment of understanding in the learning experience.


 
 
3.  AFRICAN MUSIC:
 
MUSIC IN YOUR BODY
Music making is a whole bodily experience. It involves your mind, your body and also, your psychic dimension; who you are and how you think of yourself. Through the use of African instruments, music-centred techniques and relevant African philosophical insights you will learn:



  • How to use music making experiences as a tool your engage your mind and body. (Access and engage your mind and body to express yourself through drumming)

  • Improvisation.  (How to create rhythmic patterns on the spot and confronting our own fears about our creative abilities)

  • How to facilitate African Music Workshops.
