Pretoria Symphony Orchestra’s Notes of Love is a delightful selection of symphonic music created by three masterful composers motivated by the beauty of love.
Under the dynamic and inspiring musical direction of guest conductor, Schalk van der Merwe, our audience will be treated to Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll composed for his wife, Cosima, as a birthday present after the birth of their son, Siegfried.
Franz Liszt, a prominent virtuoso pianist, composer and Richard Wagner’s father-in-law, composed his first piano concerto over a period of 20 years.
Award-winning, Pretoria-based piano virtuoso, Colette du Toit, will share the stage with the orchestra for this exciting performance of Lizst’s masterpiece.
Franz Berwald’s Symphony no.4 (“Naïve”) is an undiscovered gem in the orchestral repertoire.
To make a living, the Swedish-born composer started an orthopaedic and physiotherapy clinic in Berlin. Although ridiculed by the Stockholm music establishment, Franz Liszt gave Franz Berwald a positive and warm reception when the two met in 1857, and later wrote to Berwald: “You express yourself with invention, skill and agility”.
Notes of Love offers an exciting array of classical music that will steal your heart!
