Pencil Portrait Workshop with host Loezytha Maritz

Portrait studies have been a passion of Loezytha Maritz since a very young age.

“After years of practice, I can do a pencil sketch of you in 20 minutes while you pose. There is a difference between a sketch and a pencil portrait. When drawings are made with minimal use of lines, these are called sketches, whereas when a pencil is used as if it is a brush and for more detailed artwork, it is called a pencil portrait. In the workshop, we will look at both.”

The 3-hour workshop will include the following:

• Learning the proportion of a face, giving you a greater understanding of form, shapes, perspective, and anatomy.


• Learning about lighting and shadows.


• A kit that includes cartridge paper, pencils, charcoal, and an eraser.


• Working from both a photo and a life model.
