Pretoria Symphony Orchestra Presents Summer Time

Get into the spirit of Summertime with Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jaco van Staden and joined by soloists, Magdalene Minnaar (soprano) and Christiaan Snyman (bass-baritone). Monte de Dios Dome is the place to be on Sunday, 17 October 2021 at 15:00

This splendid open-air venue offers a unique outdoor live music experience for young and old alike. Bring your family and friends along to this exhilarating performance by the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra and soloists.  The cross-over program includes well-known favourites from musicals such as My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Les Misèrables, to name but a few. There are also some “proudly-SA” favourites and a movie-theme or two for a colourful sound explosion to kick off Summertime 2021. See you there!

Magdalene Minnaar is universally acclaimed across musical genres as a performer. She is well-known as an operatic soprano who has performed in many operas, concerts, oratorios and cross-genre productions, and her collaborations with Josh Groban, Arno Carstens and Bittereinder are shining examples of her immense versatility.

Magdalene also sang the female lead in Cape Town Opera’s international touring production of Kern and Hammerstein’s Show Boat and played the role of Christine in Pieter Toerien’s production of Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera to great acclaim. Other career highlights include performing at the opening of the Cape Town Stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Sean Bovim’s Queen at the Ballet, SuperSkouspel at the FNB Stadium and performing as guest artist on the popular TV contest, The Voice - South Africa.

Christiaan Snyman started singing professionally in 2001 in concerts and opera productions and oratorio in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, South Africa and Windhoek, Namibia. In 2009 he moved to Germany where he sang in the Opera choir of the Stadt-theater Koblenz for 5 years where he also sang numerous small roles, such as the Priest in Die Zauberflöte and the First Soldier in Salome.

During his time in Koblenz, he also sang as a guest at the Kammeroper Frankfurt as Escamillo in Carmen and with Opera Classica Europa as Priest, Harnessed Man and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte and in 2015 as Gran Sacerdote in Nabucco and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore. Christiaan also regularly sings in Oratorio such as Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium and Matthäus-Passion, Händels Messiah, and Fauré's Requiem.

Christiaan sang the title role in Mozart's Don Giovanni in 2016 and the role of Scarpia in Tosca at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, South Africa, with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra, as well as the role of Ivan, in the musical Calling Me Home in Johannesburg in 2017.

In 2019 he sang the role of Wotan in Die Walküre with the Manhattan Opera Studio in New York.
