Event Description
“Say Something”, Poetry Slam

"Say Something” is a Pretoria based poetry and visual arts experience infused with elements of competitive slamming and showcasing. The Say Something concept at its core is about the simple principle of giving people a platform to artistically and creatively voice their own stories and claim their narratives in a safe, rewarding and controlled environment. The Say Something slam initiative was dually inspired by the need for curated and development focused artistic safe spaces as well as by the poem “Say Something” by Anga Mamfanya, an award winning poet and rising star within the poetry and activist scene in Pretoria.

Say Something is a 3 day poetry slam festival featuring two days of competition open to the public and the finale happening on the final day.
The final day’s events will also include performances by the critically acclaimed Xabiso Vili on his return from a successful tour in India with his debut album Black Boi Be and 2015 speak out loud slam champion and 2015 best newcomer at WordnSound. Another one of our performers is Modise Sekghote who is a finalist of the Speak Out Loud slam in 2015 and one half of the band Children of the Wind and currently touring with his new artwork Dipoko tsa Dipoko
This slam initiative takes place across week of the 21st to the 25th of August 2017, with the finals taking place on the 25th August at the Breytenbach theatre Pretoria (Sunnyside)
