Special Screenings of: Loving Vincent

The Bioscope is proud to host a special screening of 'Loving Vincent' every year on 29 July, the day Van Gogh past away.

LOVING VINCENT is the world''s first fully painted feature film. The Film brings the painting of Vincent van Gogh to life to tell his remarkable story. Every one of the 65,000 frames of the film are an oil painting hand painted by 125 professional oil-painters who travelled from across the world to the Loving Vincent Studios in Poland and Greece to be a part of the production.

Directed by:  Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman. Animation, Biography, Crime. 1h 34min.

As remarkable as Vincent's brilliant paintings, is his passion and ill-fated life, and mysterious death. No other artist has attracted more legends than Vincent van Gogh. Variously labelled a martyr, a lustful satyr, a madman, a genius and a layabout, the real Vincent himself said in his last letter: " We cannot speak other than by our paintings" We take him at his word and let the paintings tell the real story of Vincent van Gogh.

Loving Vincent was first shot as a live action film with actors, and then hand painted over frame-by-frame in oils. The final effect is an interaction of the performance of the actors playing Vincent's famous portraits , and the performance of the painting animators, bringing these characters into the medium of paint.

COVID POLICY AND PROCEDURE.

The new Bioscope location is set to be a 47 seater cinema. We are however only selling far less in order for there to be space to sit apart from other members of the public. We ask you to please keep your mask on the entire time within the cinema premises. Drinks and snacks will be on sale and can be consumed during the film, but please consider those around you when your mask is off for this. 44 Stanley is largely an open air shopping centre, and The Bioscope has a great outside space directly outside the cinema that public can make use of. Within the cinema, we will also make use of temperature reading, air filtering, and constant cleaning to make sure that The Bioscope remains a safe and hygienic experience.

After purchasing tickets, if you experience any COVID related symptoms, or come into contact with anyone who has tested positive, we ask you to please not attend the screening. Please understand that The Bioscope will not be able to refund you this ticket. We are happy however for you to give your ticket to someone else that can attend. If this is not possible, we would be happy to exchange your ticket for a future screening. This can all be coordinated via email at [email protected]
