To celebrate Mandela Day our green and gold national symphonic team, the National Youth Orchestra, will perform a grand benefit concert in aid of the Cape Town Society for the Blind and the National Youth Orchestra's bursary fund at 19:00 on 17 July at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow. The orchestra will be lead by the sensational Polish conductor, Ewa Strusinska.
Included in the programme is Mahler’s glorious Fifth Symphony, and Benjamin Britten’s seldom-heard Double Concerto for Violin and Viola, written when the composer was just eighteen. Soloists for the concerto, drawn from within the orchestra's ranks, are: Sammy van Gysen (violin, Cape Town), Jonathan Mayer (violin, Johannesburg), Jeffrey Armstrong (violin, Cape Town), Erin Louise Torres (viola, Cape Town), Nicholas James Fidler (viola, Port Elizabeth) and Kgaugelo Mpyane (viola, Pretoria).
Tickets will be R120 (full price) and R100 (concessions). I
