Starring Clint Eastwood as "the Good", Lee Van Cleef as "the Bad", and Eli Wallach as "the Ugly", the film follows three gunslingers vying for a hidden cache of Confederate gold amid the chaos of the American Civil War, particularly the Battle of Glorieta Pass in 1862.

The screenplay, penned by Age & Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni, and Leone—with uncredited contributions from Sergio Donati—was based on a story by Vincenzoni and Leone.

The cinematography, crafted by Tonino Delli Colli, features sweeping widescreen compositions, while Ennio Morricone's iconic score enhances the film’s tension and atmosphere.

Renowned for its striking cinematographic style, Leone employs long shots, close-ups, and stylised gunfights, blending violence and suspense with visual grandeur.
