We screen standout cinema you won’t find elsewhere, then discuss it properly over beer and pizza. Curated by film curator and critic Deniz Sertkol and François Smit—who’ve spent their careers finding films that matter.
Not film theory. Just films that deserve your full attention, and conversations with people who give them exactly that. Monthly screenings for members and friends at The Bioscope. Sign-up by emailing [email protected]
No membership fees, just a passion for film is essential.
FREMONT (2023)
Dir. Babak Jalali | 91 min | Black & White
Donya writes fortunes in cookies at a San Francisco factory. She can’t sleep. She’s an Afghan refugee, eight months in California, carrying Kabul with her everywhere she goes.
When she slips her phone number into a fortune cookie, she’s not looking for romance—she’s looking for proof that connection is still possible when you’ve left everyone behind.
What arrives instead is an address in Bakersfield, an instruction to “ask for the Deer,” and a drive that might change everything.
Quiet, wry, devastating. Shot in luminous black and white that makes loneliness look like poetry.
Screening will start at 7pm
