Event Description

Many philosophers have written about films. Gilles Deleuze famously wrote two volumes on cinema, arguing that is a “form of thought,” by which he means that film does not simply demonstrate philosophical themes and issues, but are themselves visual philosophies. The aim of the Philosophy Film Club is to bridge theory and practice by screening films, followed by a discussion led by a local philosopher.

Please join us on 17 June for Richard Linklater’s animated feature, Waking Life, a dreamy but deeply philosophical film about the meaning of life. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Dr Tony Shabangu from the University of Johannesburg.

Students pay R40, all other members of public pay only R80.
