Event Description

Many philosophers have written about films. Gilles Deleuze famously wrote two volumes on cinema, arguing that is a “form of thought,” by which he means that film does not simply demonstrate philosophical themes and issues, but are themselves visual philosophies.
The aim of the Philosophy Film Club is to bridge theory and practice by screening films, followed by a discussion led by a local philosopher.

Please join us on 13 October to watch a selection of award-winning films (shorts and a feature film) created through collective and educational processes in Brazil, Mozambique and South Africa, by Rogério Borges and Ariadine Zampaulo. This will be followed by a discussion with the Brazilian filmmakers, who have worked in peripheral and rural territories for over a decade, engaging communities through research, workshops, film screenings and productions.

Students pay R40, all other members of public pay only R80.
