The musical for 2018 is the Willow Pattern Plate which is based on the original Chinese legend. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the design which one sees on the porcelain plates, you will see a willow tree, a bridge & 2 doves.
As in all fairy stories there is a ‘wicked witch’, & in the Chinese legend she is Nezha, the goddess of war. There are always the star crossed lovers. In this story they are the Princess Kung Si & the gardener Chang. Of course there are always jealous sisters, & in this case there are 6 of them!!
In a story of forbidden love the princess is betrothed to an old ugly suitor, Ta-Jin. Upon her refusal to marry him, she is imprisoned in a tower only to be rescued by a team of beautiful Chinese goddesses.
As in all fairy stories, good overcomes evil, & the lovers live happily ever after after being transformed into 2 doves.
