Injongo Yethu - A Legacy Carried Forward

Join the University of Pretoria Tuks Camerata for Gala Concert ’26, an evening celebrating nearly six decades of music, legacy and the enduring purpose of one of South Africa’s leading university choirs. This year’s concert, Injongo Yethu - Our Purpose, reflects on the journey that has brought Tuks Camerata to this moment: the challenges faced, the victories achieved and the resilience that has allowed the choir to continue singing across generations.

From powerful African choral works and traditional repertoire to sacred and contemporary compositions, the programme explores questions of identity, purpose, faith, humanity and hope. At its heart is a simple conviction: that individual voices become something greater when they come together. The evening also marks an important moment in the choir’s continuing story. Following a period of transition under Interim Conductor Renette Bouwer, the role now passes to Raine Pienaar, whose own journey with Tuks Camerata began as a chorister in 2016 and has now come full circle with his appointment as the permanent conductor.

Through music, movement and storytelling, Injongo Yethu asks not only what our purpose has been, but what it can become. Sinqobile. We have conquered. And now, the journey continues.
