Live shows audiences are famished, and Ub’Dope eSibikwa has the pots, filled to the brim with stand-up comedy and sketches. Zwakala Sihleke Sonke! Brace yourself for a weeklong season of feasting and celebration of Freedom Day, Worker’s Day, and Mother’s Day with an incredible line-up, at Sibikwa Arts Centre from April 27 to May 9 2021.

Nearing the end of an exciting and enriching season of online workshops and performances, Ub’Dope eSibikwa, an initiation by Sibikwa Art Centre in partnership with Jefferson Bobs Tshabalala of Ub’Dope Shishini, are welcoming audiences back into the live space with an exhilarating line-up of favorites in the comedy, and sketching industry.

Speaking on the choice of comedy being the center of this season, and celebration of our momentous holidays, Sibikwa Art Centre Artistic Director, Phyllis Klotz says, “People love to laugh, especially with the tragedies trailed by the pandemic; we all need a break, and perhaps even laugh at these harsh realities. We also need to celebrate the everyday workers and remind them that they are appreciated, that’s why we’re celebrating Workers Day.” She continues, “We have had successful celebrations of Mother’s Day in the past, and we are confident that this year’s will be a special one.”

The easing of the Covid-19 restrictions has allowed for a complete extravaganza of a market, Ekhaya lethu style. We are talking gumboot dancers, pop-up choirs, African cuisine dishes, and all kinds of merchandise on sale.

Tshabalala gives an assurance of a remarkable time, “I have invited some of the finest comics and comic actors in Mzansi to this presentation, and so I urge all lovers of humour to spoil themselves by joining us for this stellar season”.
