UP Drama Student Festival 2025

The University of Pretoria (UP): School of the Arts (SOA): Drama will once again jump-start the second semester with an elaborate showcase of the best student productions devised during the first half of 2025.


To elevate this year’s rendition, our annual festival will include workshops presented by students, industry professionals and various behind-the-scenes staff who support all our students in realising their productions. Additionally, the festival programme includes interactive activities for audiences to contribute their arts in various forms.


Performances Include:



  • Third Year Directing Student Productions: Six productions directed by third year students supervised by Mr. Calvin Ratladi.

  • Dinner to Die For: A multi-camera sitcom performed by Honours students and directed by Dr. Lelia Bester.

  • Are we worth saving?: UP Drama’s contribution to the collaborative Theatre of Climate Action (TOCA) project with the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice (SOAS, University of London) and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). Choreography and dramaturgy by Dr Kristina Johnstone and Siya Radebe.

  • FraGmenT(s): A solo performance by master’s student Siya Radebe.

  • Briefing the Creative Team - Presented by Nadine Minnaar 

  • Prepping for Tech - Presented by Nasiphi Magaba 

  • Stage Magic: Set & Lighting - Presented by Nadine Minnaar and Phuti Matuba 

  • Getting Technical: Marketing and ManagementPresented by Nicola Prinsloo 

  • Owning your Art: Brand, Rights & Resources Presented by final year Performing Arts Management students.

Other Events/Activities:



  • Open Mic Sessions on all days of the festival except Wednesday, 23 July 2025

  • Student-led activities First and final year students lead activities that are regular events in the BDram degree.

  • Creative Station -  We provide the artistic tools and audiences create the art)

  • Alcohol

  • Weapons

  • Photography or videography of any performances

  • Eating or drinking inside any venues


Allowed:



  • Own food/refreshments

  • Photography or videography outside the venues

  • Having fun


Parking:



  • Parking is available on the University of Pretoria Hatfield Campus with a valid ticket confirmation for the applicable day.

  • Parking is not available for registered University of Pretoria students.
