UPSO Concert I

The University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra presents an afternoon of profound Romantic expression and symphonic grandeur.

The programme opens with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, performed by the remarkable Lezanti van Sittert. From its iconic rising chords to its sweeping, lyrical expanses, the concerto moves between introspection and brilliance, culminating in one of the most triumphant finales in the repertoire.

The symphonic tradition then unfolds in three striking voices:

Ludwig van Beethoven  Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67 (First Movement)

Leevi Madetoja                 Elegy

César Franck                      Symphony in D minor (Final Movement)

This programme traverses drama, reflection, and ultimate resolution — a compelling showcase of the University of Pretoria’s flagship symphonic ensemble at full artistic strength.
