Carol started patchwork and quilting in the early 90s and has never looked back.
She began teaching in 1996, and obtained her SAQG teacher's accreditation in 2014.
She was invited to teach in Swaziland and has taught at SA national festivals in Port Elizabeth and Durban.
Carol enjoys teaching basics to beginners and technique classes to the more experienced quilters.
She is always looking for quick and easy methods and loves to share them.
Carol started a Facebook page during lockdown and shared the progress of her scrap busting lockdown quilt as well as many techniques and ideas via short videos. (See ‘Carol’s Quilting Classes’ on Facebook)
Shattered Rainbows with Carol
This is a quilt that is designed to use up your stash of all those scraps and ‘odd’ fabrics.
Students will learn how to make two basic blocks, using a simple and speedy method.
The technique of how to ‘twirl’ and flatten seams where eight seams meet in a pinwheel block will be taught.
Thereafter it is just a matter of sewing them together into whatever random design develops.
This is an ideal getaway class where you can sit and sew and chat with old and new friends.
As is usual in Carol’s classes there will be plenty of hints and tips to learn along the way.
*Scraps of cotton fabric (if you have a large enough scrap stash you can just use one colour way eg autumn colours)
Pre-cut as much as possible to save time in class:
Equal quantities of:
7.5” x 5.5” rectangles and
7.5” x 2.5” strips (ideal for using up those jelly roll leftovers)
Note: 96 of each will be enough to make a large quilt of approx. 2m x 1.3m. Fabric quantities do not include border and backing fabrics
*Threads and pre-wound bobbins, a light to medium grey or beige is ideal
*Sharp machine needles
*Sewing machine and accessories in good working order, with attachable sewing table
*Walking foot - optional
*Rotary cutter (a sharp new blade saves time)
*Medium / small cutting mat or a rotating mat if you have one
*Rulers: 6''x 12” or 6'' x 24”. Optional – large 12” square
*Batting: approx 2m x 1.5m for use as a design wall in class and for your quilt later
*Iron and extension cord
*Usual sewing notions (pins, scissors, etc.)
*Marking pens / pencils for light or dark fabric
