102S Bee Study Workshop Friday 5th July
Session: 2 x 3hr
Beverley Rebelo
Level: Intermediate
Bev Rebelo, from Harare, Zimbabwe, is a fibre artist and quilter. She has 35 years’ experience,
combining traditional techniques with experimental methods of quilting. Her detailed artwork
combines photography, fabric and thread play. African subjects, colours and landscapes provide the
creative inspiration that influence her designs. Her thread box is her paint palette, and her needle is
her brush. She embraces the meditative rhythm of hand sewing and quilting but enjoys the
spontaneous results of free motion machine quilting.
DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will learn to use photographs to create rich and complex pictorial compositions, suitable
for the centrepiece of a quilt. A demonstration will show how to prepare photographs for this
technique, and how to print them onto fabric. The students will then create their own realistic image
from a supplied photograph, learning shading, blending and colour value.
