110S Free Expression Modern Shapes Friday 5th July

Mari is an international award winning quilt artist and experienced accredited quilt teacher and 
judge. She knows no boundaries and has a talent for teaching. She believes that every quilter has 
the power and potential to create something beautiful. She tries to equip her students with as much 
knowledge as possible in a stress-free environment. She wants them to have fun, expand their skills 
and enjoy the creative process. The smile on a student’s face when she has mastered something is 
her reward.



DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Let’s make an innovative art quilt in three easy steps. You will enjoy creating your own design and 
developing several techniques in the process. Guidelines will be given but the design will be your 
own. Guidance will be given on how to choose colours, shapes etc. In this workshop you will be 
taught the techniques of raw-edge machine appliqué as well as how to put together overlapping 
blocks. Guidance on how to quilt your piece will also be given. Begin making quilts your own way 
with your own voice. Let’s start the journey!
Student Requirements:
Eight pieces of white A3 printer paper
Pencil and eraser
Selection of fabric for appliqué in bold, contrasting colours in solids 
33” x 23” calico fabric
Teflon sheet (optional but advisable)
2m appliqué paper
1m Stitch & Tear
505 basting glue
Needles (machine 80 Universal)
Sewing machine with free motion capabilities
Extension flex and adaptor
Machine feet: darning foot / ordinary sewing foot / quarter inch foot / embroidery foot
Rotary cutter, extra blades
Cutting mat
Machine thread or embroidery thread matching your fabric
Squares, circles, (optional but advisable)
12inch x 6.5inch quilter’s ruler
