Kathryn is a multimedia artist and teacher whose predominant medium is textile. She uses her 
sewing machine as a mechanical paint brush or pencil. She stitches little snippets of various fabrics 
and fibres and uses coloured threads to create painterly images. The process of creating art is 
healing. It shifts something inside, allowing space for well-being.
 
DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Kathryn will teach many of the techniques that she has used in her previous artworks through this 
A4-sized format. The techniques which students will learn include fibre embedment using scribble 
stitch, free motion machine embroidery, spider webbing and ragged-cord edging. But most 
importantly, students will learn how to critique and develop their own work.

1 x colour image
1 x black/white image
1 x postcard template
1 x stamp
1 x set of instructions
2 x pieces tracing paper
1 x piece of canvas
All A4 size excepting stamp, which is stamp size.
Student Requirements:
Sewing machine in good working order (must be able to lower the feed dogs)
An extension cord and adaptor
An extension table
Darning/embroidery foot
A variety of different coloured sewing threads
A pack of jeans needles
A small set of Inktense coloured pencils
A blue and a red fine liner
A black fibre-tipped pen
