Macky is an accredited SAQG teacher who has taught within her own guild (DIAS in Port Elizabeth)
and at many of the South African National Festivals. She has also taught at shops and guilds
throughout South Africa. Quilting is her passion, and she loves to teach and to equip her students
with as much knowledge as she can and plant seeds that will inspire them to create from within
themselves.
DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Join this class for some creative fun and explore the use of paper in your work. You will create a
paper fabric base (11” x 13”) on which to be creative with fused appliqué, machine and hand
stitching. When completed, may be mounted on a 14” x 16” canvas or stitched onto a quilted
background.
A very relaxed stress-free class ... with very few rules!
Student Requirements:
Sewing machine in good working order
Extension cord and adaptor
A piece of thick interfacing 11” X 13”
Approx 5 very colourful pages from a magazine (the colours will become muted in the process) as
well as any other interesting paper you may wish to use ... sheet music, handwritten letters/recipes,
words, labels, handmade paper, maps etc.
A 12” ruler
A piece of tulle 12” X 14”
A small quantity of white PVA (wood) glue in a jar and a craft paintbrush
Paper and small sharp fabric scissors
Darning foot and machine appliqué foot
A few sheets of A4 paper, pencil and eraser
Fabric scraps for your design
Fusible web to apply your design
Any embellishments you may want to add
Basic sewing supplies
A selection of machine threads and hand embroidery threads
A tube of Bostik Sew Simple glue (Macky gets hers at Checkers)
A simple Funky Face drawing / or any other simple design you want to use. Macky will have a few
designs but try and do your own if you can
