503S Magic Quilt in a Day Tuesday 9th July
Erla Cilliers
Session: 2 x 3hr
Level: Beginner

Erla was instantly hooked on quilting the moment she was first exposed to this textile art form in
2000. In her day job she has a lot to do with training; therefore, obtaining her SAQG Quilt Teacher
Accreditation in 2015 was inevitable. Erla loves clever quilts, quilts with unexpected secondary
designs, and ones with three dimensional elements. If you leave Erla’s class feeling empowered and
enthusiastic, she will be happy.

DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This project is an adaptation of the traditional rail fence design, which leaves one with a basketweave-look quilt top, alternatively an overlay for your dining room table. That jelly roll that’s lying
around waiting for a suitable project is ideal for this single-bed-sized quilt top which can be
accomplished in a day.
Student Requirements:
Sewing machine in good working order (remember your machine manual)
Extension cord and adaptor
Quarter inch foot
Cutting mat at least 12 x 12 inches
12 inch ruler
Rotary cutter with sharp blade
1 2½”jelly roll or 36 two and a half inch unique strips in colour combinations of your choice, eg 12
different blues, 12 greens and 12 purples, or 18 different oranges and 18 reds. Please cut strips
before coming to class to maximize teaching and stitching time!
1m cotton fabric in a contrasting solid colour of your choice or a fabric that reads as a solid (Erla
used black)
Matching thread for your chosen colour scheme(s) and bobbins wound with this thread
