You will create an abstract composition using strip piecing techniques and leftover fabric from your collection with a range of value from light to dark.
Students will learn how to cut and sub-cut bands of strips to form the building blocks for the composition, as well as achieving sharp points.

SUPPLY LIST:
Apart from the “normal” sewing equipment they should bring the following:
-Sewing machine with quarter inch foot.
-Rotary cutter with new blade,
-cutting board,
-12-inch ruler,
-medium grey/brown sewing thread.
-Piece of Flannel or batting to pin finished blocks unto.

Fabric requirements:
-From your scrap choose medium to large, printed fabric in any colour scheme with a gradation of values from very light to very dark.
-Although this is not a colour wash, think of a colour wash in the back of your mind. Try to prevent too big “jumps” between the values. Choose different values of one colour, or different values of analogous colours or three colours next to each other on the colour wheel.
-For quilt size, 83 x 74 cm, cut 36 retangles of 8"by 6 3/4" from light to dark. use you favourite fabric once or more. Put 2 or 3 rectangles precisely on top of each other, and subcut with sharp blade 4 smaller rectangles 2"x 6 3/4" rectangles. You should have 144 of these small rectangles. Arrange these rectangles according to values very light to very dark. Bring some extra scraps of the chosen fabric in case of mistakes.
